The winding workflow

Know which inputs belong to each stage before creating the program.

  1. Prepare the material, mandrel geometry, payout eye and machine profile.
  2. Build the layers, check the trajectory and generate the G-code.
  3. Use the program data to estimate production costs and access engineering tools.

Create the first program

Open Filament Winding → Programs and choose the option to add a program.

  1. Give the program a name that identifies the part and its revision.
  2. Use the available templates as a starting point for your configuration.
  3. Review the imported dimensions and machine settings before continuing.

Define the composite material

The bill of materials connects fiber length to raw material consumption.

  1. Name the material and select its type and unit of measure.
  2. Check the base length used to calculate the recipe proportions.
  3. Add fiber, resin and other components with their quantities and units.

Set up the payout eye

The band table relates winding angle, width, thickness and material.

  1. Select or create the payout eye configuration used by the machine.
  2. Review the band width, layer thickness and filament count for each angle.
  3. Set the distance rule, mandrel clearance and transverse offset.

Check the machine profile

The machine profile defines how the trajectory becomes axis movements.

  1. Select the controller profile and confirm metric or imperial units.
  2. Check the axis letters, directions, travel limits, speeds and accelerations.
  3. Review point spacing and smoothing settings for the output program.

Review the post-processor

Each block contributes part of the file read by the CNC controller.

  1. Review the main header, cycle header and subprogram definitions.
  2. Check the motion line format, subprogram calls and program footer.
  3. Match the output syntax and file extension to your controller.

Connect the program inputs

Select the configurations that will be used to calculate this part.

  1. Link the mandrel, machine, payout eye and composite material.
  2. Check the filament count and define the G-code file name.
  3. Enable special functions only when they belong to your process and plan.

Build the winding layers

Each layer describes one winding operation in the sequence.

  1. Add a layer and choose the winding type, angle and rotation direction.
  2. Set its starting position, winding length and required thickness.
  3. Review ramps, optional stops and the order of the layers.

Inspect the simulation

Use the trajectory and axis charts to review the program before export.

  1. Check the winding path, layer starts, ends and transitions.
  2. Review the axis speed charts against the configured machine limits.
  3. Adjust the input data when the simulated result does not match the project.

Generate the G-code

Start generation after reviewing the inputs and the layer sequence.

  1. Save the program and use its G-code generation action.
  2. Follow the processing status; larger programs may take longer.
  3. When generation finishes, inspect the output and the calculated consumption.

Export and send to the CNC

Use the output format configured in the machine profile.

  1. Download the generated file and check its name and extension.
  2. Review the controller syntax, units and positioning conventions before use.
  3. If FTP is included in your plan and configured, use the transfer option.

Calculate production costs

The cost calculator is included in every plan, including Free.

  1. Open the cost calculator and select the product linked to the CNC program.
  2. Load raw material consumption and machine time from the program.
  3. Enter your rates, labour and batch quantity to calculate the cost.

Explore the engineering tools

Additional modules cover structural studies for poles, pipes and tanks.

  1. Open the module for the part and import the program laminate when available.
  2. Enter the material properties and service inputs required by the study.
  3. Calculate, review the results and consult the report for that study.
